José Massa, Vice-Chairman and member of the Board of Directors of Duro Felguera, recently participated in the recent 34th Congress of the Spanish Association of Risk and Insurance Management (Agers).
With an audience of more than 500 professionals from the risk and insurance sector, and the presence of CEOs of large companies, risk managers, collaborating associations, international guests from Europe and Latin America, José Massa, who spoke at the table entitled “The questions a director should ask himself about the business risk function”, pointed out that “The objective of risk management in the organisation is that there are no surprises; and, if there are any, that their consequences are minimal. Achieving this is what makes the function efficient”.
The problem with this exercise,” Massa continued, “is that when it is well executed, organisations do not perceive it and since ‘nothing happens’, it seems that nothing is done. For this reason, risk managers have the challenge of managing to convey its importance and the hours of effort and work to others in order to be properly valued”.
Finally, the director and vice-president of Duro Felguera pointed out, “the importance of the order in which risk management is implemented is strategic in organisations. Firstly, it is appropriate to have customers as the focus (ISO 9001), secondly, quality as a criterion for action (ISO 19000) and lastly, risk management as a driving force (ISO 31000)”.
