Duro Felguera Calderería Pesada (DFCP) has carried out this week, with a spectacular and complex operation, the shipment from its dock in the port of Gijón of two 6,000 m3 Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cargo tanks, which will be sent to the German engineering company TGE Marine Gas Engineering GmbH for a bunkering vessel.
The contract with TGE Marine was signed in December 2021 and during this time, Duro Felguera Calderería Pesada has been in charge of the mechanical design, workshop manufacturing and factory testing of the two containers, manufactured with special alloys to withstand the very low temperatures required for LNG storage (-163ºC).
The 12,000 m3 vessel, which will operate with these two tanks, will be the largest of its kind in the United States, and is the largest of its kind in the world.

The shipping sector is moving rapidly towards decarbonisation and LNG offers great potential for emission reductions compared to traditional fuels. Its use as bunker fuel is increasing every year. This project is yet another example of the opportunities that are opening up for Duro Felguera with decarbonisation.
